England vs. France live updates: France leading at half, 1-0
The 2022 FIFA World Cup continues Saturday on FOX with England battling France at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar in the tournament’s last quarterfinals match.
England, led by captain Harry Kane, is aiming to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive World Cup, but upsetting Les Bleus — and stopping the unstoppable Kylian Mbappé — is proving to require England’s best performance yet.
On the other side, reigning World Cup champion France is hoping to join Italy and Brazil as the only countries in World Cup history to win back-to-back tournaments. Heading into Saturday, France has won its past 11 World Cup matches.
The winner will advance to play Morocco, which took down Portugal earlier Saturday, in Wednesday’s semifinal match.
Here are the top plays!
6:’ All-out effort
France forward Olivier Giroud didn’t hold back when he neared the goal early in this one.
11′: Big-time save
Giroud made another attempt minutes later, this time on a header, but it was saved by England keeper Jordan Pickford.
17′: Sweet strike
Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni was the star of show early, kicking off the scoring with a goal for France.
22′: Saved!
France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris came up with crucial back-to-back saves when England came knocking — first on defender Luke Shaw, then on Kane — to keep the Three Lions off the board altogether.
With Saturday’s start, Lloris became the most capped player in France men’s national team history (143).
Meanwhile, no penalty was given on this challenge on Kane as he made another play near the net moments later.
29′: Denied!
Kane took another shot near the half-hour mark, and it was once again saved by Lloris, this time in the top right corner.
Just like that, France carried its 1-0 lead into halftime, but not before Antoine Griezmann picked up the first yellow card of the match in the 43rd minute.
Stay tuned for updates!

Setting the stage
Saturday’s match is the third World Cup meeting between these two nations, with England having won the previous two matchups in 1966 and ’82.
However, France has lost only one of their last eight clashes with England — a friendly in November 2015.
