Italy beats Bulgaria to become volleyball world champion
The team led by Alessandro Michieletto beat the surprise team from Bulgaria 3:1 (25:21, 25:17, 17:25, 25:10) in the final in Pasay City in the Philippines.
The Italians dominated the knockout round, dropping just one set. In the final, they were particularly superior on serve and block. The Italian women had also won the world championship title at the beginning of September.
For the Bulgarians, reaching the final for the first time in 55 years was already a great success. Before the tournament, the team was regarded as up-and-coming with a lot of talent, but not as the favorites.
Iran competed in the VNL 2025 and advanced to the quarterfinal but left the course after suffering a defeat against Czech Republic to settle for eighth place.
