Iran fall short to Russia in Ufa friendly cup

TEHRAN – Russia defeated Iran 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22) in Ufa friendly tournament on Friday.

Russia’s leading scorers were Anton Semyshev (14 points) and Dmitry Lyzik (12 points, including 5 blocks).

“The impression is exciting — it was great to play such an interesting international match,” said Russia head coach Konstantin Bryanskiy. “The fact that we lost something in the second set was primarily connected with the extensive rotation. We were playing for the result, and overall I am satisfied with the team. Obviously, we will improve, but we are only at about 60 percent of our peak form.

Earlier in the day, Cuba defeated Belarus 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-21).

Roberto Piazza’s side will meet Cuba on Saturday.
